Barluga
Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, Tyne and Wear
Barluga has always been a popular choice of city centre destination for Gourmet Society members. After an impressive refurbishment and a menu overhaul, Barluga is a good example of how a restaurant-bar should change to keep ahead of the game and keep the customers interested. Opposite the Theatre Royal on Grey Street, arguably Newcastle's architecturally richest street, Barluga is in a fantastic location and comes highly recommended. The new menu has a real seafood feel to it. Oysters catch the eye on the a la carte menu and there is always a fresh fish of the day to choose. This reccommendation would not be complete without mentioning the mussels in a choice of Thai, Spanish, Moroccan or Classic sauce, which are proving to be a real hit. The exciting menu is not all seafood though, and Thai Green Curry or Spiced Meatballs from the "Comfort food" section; North African Chickpea, Carrot and Shallot Salad with Pomegranate Molasses or Oriental Duck and Plum Salad from the "Light Bites" section are a few of the dishes on offer producing a well thought out menu for all tastes.
