1877, situated on Canning Circus in Nottingham city centre, is a great modern restaurant that sets its stall out to serve exceptional traditional British food. Its subtle, warm ambience and capacity to cater for a relatively simple dinner out, or for something a little more formal, marks it out. But it's the food that steals the show, in the end. Classic dishes populate the menu: a Jerusalem artichoke soup for starters, and pan-fried duck breast as a main, for example. But it's really the quality of the cooking and the produce, as well as the imagination with which the dish is served (duck with a potato pressed terrine that breaks and melts in the mouth), that gives 1877 its distinctive character.
