Cuisine:British

Saltwater is one of those rare restaurants where you can feel completely at home from the minute you walk through the door. The inventive British menu is a perfect blend of modern and classic with an ever-changing menu based around fresh, seasonal, and local produce. The highlight of the current menu has to be the lemon, garlic and rosemary marinated veal with Provencal pickles, although we are sure we will have a new favourite on our next visit.

The food is complemented by stunning design and in the roof top bar and cocktail lounge you are treated to panoramic views over the city whilst award-winning bar tenders serve sophisticated drinks.

Saltwater is a perfect way to treat yourself!

The reviews on the Gourmet Society website were very positive so our expectations were fairly high - perhaps too high as the food didn't really live up to our expectations. Our starters (mushroom ravioli and a pheasant terrine) were okay - fine but nothing special. The best dish was beer-battered fish and chips though to be utterly truthful I've had much better fat chips in gastropubs elsewhere. The frangipane tart and chocolate marquise we chose for desert were competent but not inspired. Our conclusion - a decent place to eat but we're not really fired up to make a return visit any time soon.

Saltwater has been on our 'to-do' list for a number of months. What a shame it took us so long! Our evening started with a cocktail in the bar which had lovely comfy sofa to sit in. The food was excellent. We both had the scallop and belly pork, with pea puree starter. The scallops were beautifully seared and sweet, with crunchy crackling on the belly pork and flavourful pea puree. The one down side is we received two and a half scallops instead of three. When this was pointed out, Maxine, our gem of a server, was extremely apologetic and could not do enough. Our mains were equally delicious (duck breast and lamb rump). When I requested that the seville orange sauce was replaced with a wine jus, there were no issues. Our desserts were banana fritters with honeycomb praline ice (my partner was in rapture) and I had the best cheese board I have ever encountered, with 7 different cheeses and a chutney to die for. We were also informed , after we had ordered, that the desserts were complimentary, given our earlier problems with the scallops. All in all, the meal was lovely and it is a shame we waited so long to eat there. I would also like to compliment the restaurant on its serving staff, who were well informed on all of the dishes, with particular praise for Maxine!

This is a cracking spot and I was chuffed to find it on here. Found it while I was a student here and it's become a favourite haunt, for drinks first up but the food's really good too and it helps make a night of it. Best of all for me is the place itself which is a cool location and has a really nice vibe. Like.

Good atmosphere - fantastic a la carte menu - good range of meat and fish dishes. Will definitely be going back!
