Saracens Head

Southwell, Nottinghamshire

The Saracens Head Hotel is a historic Century Coaching Inn established in 1460 in the picturesque Southwell set in the shadows of the Norman Minster.
The hotel is featured in all of the major guides including the AA and Conde Nast Johansens. However, now the restaurant is coming into a league of its own. The day to day running of the restaurant has been taken over by Jonny Bingham of Aquarium fame.
Anyone who has eaten at Aquarium is sure to be beating a path to the Saracens! He has already started introducing some of his famed Gourmet Evenings with our friend Philip from Weaver's Wine Merchants. However, there is no need to wait for one of these nights to sample the great food that Saracens is now turning out. Jonny is one of life's characters and so his food is like his personality: charming, eloquent and delightful. Definitely worth a trip out to.

We had a most enjoyable meal in their dining room served by pleasant not too obtrusive staff. Surprisingly they allowed us to use our card on their 3-Course lunch which at £15.50 was excellent value. There were sufficient choices on each course to cover any taste; fish, vegetarian, pasta, & three roasts on the main course part of the menu. Nice sensibly priced wines. Highly commended.
