Squeek

Nottingham, Nottinghamshire

Squeek has an amazingly creative and imaginative menu with a whole host of delicious sounding items such as a tarte filled with woodland mushrooms, cooked in brandy and garlic and topped with blue cheese; feta red pepper and basil cheesecake or roast courgette, basil, pine nut and spinach lasagne. But what makes Squeek such a welcome rarity in the Gourmet Society Directory is that it is one of the few restaurants that serves purely vegetarian and vegan foods.
Owner Jeff Case advised that this is the place if you like to savour your food as all food is prepared to order using the freshest ingredients. Newly refurbished with a retro feel to it Squeek is turning even the most committed of meat eaters heads with its fantastic selection and welcoming ambience. Also serves organic beers, wines, teas and coffees.

Squeek is just a great restaurant. Food is fabulous - even my hubbie who loves his steak and ale pie looks forward to eating here. We have been on many occasions (with and without the gourmet card) and the food is always really interesting and really tasty. Great value, lovely staff, very laid-back.

Town centre venue that is a delight. I never beleived that I would hear my wife (a committed meat eater) sit in a veggie restaurant and look forward to the next visit. We visited mid-week and would have struggled to get a table had we not booked in advance; the reasons became obvious, relaxing ambience, attentive staff, a great menu for comitted veffies or vegans and obviously an acomplished chef. The claim is that the menu changes with the seasons to ensure fresh and (mostly) locally sourced ingredients. Squeek operates a fixed price policy based on the number of courses that you eat which is clear, you know exactly what you are committed to; value for money; no less than excellent. 10/10. I am looking forward to my next visit.

Most places seem to treat vegetarians like second class citizens and serve bland, boring food. It's like they don't really want to make an effort unless it has meat in it. For my partners birthday, because he is a vegetarian and very disgruntled with restaurants as a whole, I decided to treat him to a vegetarian meal out. I chose to take him to Squeek in Nottingham. I was a little worried about this meal, being the meat eater out of the two of us, I expected bland food with loads of cardboard tofu becuase of what I had seen him receive when we were out at other restaurants. From the outside the restaurant doesn't look like much, but as soon as you enter it's like you're transported to another world. This cosy restaurant is decorated with a Morrocan feel to the furniture and splashes of artwork here and there. Very appealing to the eye. The menu was crammed with delightfully sounding food and you had a choice between a vegetarian or vegan menu. On choosing our meal we were brought a complimentary dip, which was absolutely scrumptious. I thought, surely the whole meal isn't going to be this good. However, I literally had to eat my words, as I devoured 3 courses of tantalisingly tasty food with not an ounce of tofu in sight. Until going to Squeek, I never believed that vegetables could be made to taste so wonderful and my tongue still cries out for more to this day. Not only was the food very tasty and the service was wonderful, but the price was cheaper than I would expect for food of this standard. I recommend this restaurant for both veggies and non-veggies, especially the non-veggies who believe that you can’t eat a meal without meat. I will definitely be going back again and again and again. 10/10
