Found within the charming village of Sandon, in the heart of the Staffordshire countryside, the Dog in a Doublet may boast a rather comedic name, but it is a serious affair as far as afternoon tea is concerned. Located between both Stafford and Uttoxeter, the Dog in a Doublet is a popular and stylish gastro pub and is easily accessible by those travelling through on the A51 and the M6 motorway.
The pub serves two kinds of afternoon tea, both offering a great selection of sweet and savoury treats. The first is the more traditional kind of afternoon tea where a selection of tasty finger sandwiches as well as cheese twists and pancetta twirls start things off, followed by homemade scones with clotted cream and local jams and a variety of mouth-watering cakes. A choice of Earl Grey, Green, Peppermint and fruit teas accompany, all served by the pot. Add a glass of champagne and make the occasion a really special one.
The second afternoon tea option is a much more modern and masculine take, with sandwiches such as beef and Stilton, Scotch egg, mini Yorkshire pudding with beef, honey and mustard chipolatas, pork pie, mixed nuts and a Yorkie chocolate bar.
The Dog in a Doublet is a great destination for afternoon tea and a very popular one among savvy locals. Sit back in the beautifully elegant armchairs set in front of large windows framed by pretty drapery and enjoy one of Britain’s most treasured of pastimes at the Dog and Doublet.
