The Newton Hotel, in Nairn, is a grand stage for afternoon tea. The 17th-century manor began life as a family home, later transforming into a hotel that hosted ? among many well-heeled families ? Charlie Chaplin and his family. Such well-to-do guests came from far and wide to admire both the lovely parkland and the sweeping views to the rugged Moray Firth and Black Isle beyond.rnrnAfternoon tea at Newton Hotel is served in either the Chaplin Restaurant or the bar. The restaurant is a demure dining room of tall windows and linen-robed tables. The bar, on the other hand, has a casual air about it, with diners sinking into well-stuffed sofas that gather around the open fireplaces. The low wooden tables are warmed by crackling log fires in the winter. The afternoon tea itself is classically presented, so diners can expect china plates piled high with cakes, sandwiches and scones paired with cream and jam.rnrnDiners will find Newton Hotel in Nairn, a friendly Highland village with a proud fishing history. It's also been something of a holiday retreat since the 19th century, when Victorians made a beeline to Nairn to enjoy its crisp air and unexpectedly sandy beaches. These days, golfers make up the bulk of Nairn visitors, thanks to the Nairn Golf Course, which hosted the Curtis Cup in 2012. Whichever part of Nairn diners explore ? be it the Newton Hotel estate, the welcoming village, or the rugged Moray Firth ? they'll come away touched by the spectacular scenery and warm welcome.
