Kingston Lodge Hotel's afternoon tea is a lavish affair. King-sized scones are paired up with clotted cream and jam, while the cakes are an inventive, ever-changing selection that in the past has featured rich chocolate tart, zesty lemon drizzle cake, miniature Eton Mess, and cocoa-sprinkled sponge cake. The sandwiches riff off the traditional flavours, offering up a bevy of egg and rocket, cheese and tomato, and cucumber and cream cheese fillings. It's all beautifully arranged on slate boards. rnrnThe tea, meanwhile, is served in a classic pot that staff are more than happy to top up. In fact, the thing that really sets Kingston Lodge Hotel's afternoon tea apart is the staff, to whom nothing is too much trouble ? they'll even wrap up any left overs for diners to enjoy at home. The friendliness of the staff and the casual cosiness of the lounge bar combine to allow for a pleasant afternoon that's very much on par with the four-star standards of Kingston Lodge Hotel.rnrnKingston Lodge Hotel is in an enviable location just a five-minute waltz away from the royal Richmond Park. Here, wanderers will discover a nature reserve, the flower-filled Isabella Plantation, majestic Pembroke Lodge and free-roaming herds of deer. Kingston Lodge Hotel is also surrounded by three of London's prettiest neighbourhoods ? Kingston, of course, with its grand market place; the golf clubs and tennis courts of Wimbledon; and lovely Richmond. Alight a train to Waterloo, on the other hand, and within ten minutes swap the relaxation of the afternoon tea ritual for the bustling centre of London.
