Bistro En Glaze is situated in the lovely Tyne Valley at Wylam. It is a small restaurant that is predominantly French influenced and run by a young couple who have real enthusiasm for both the area and their food - a perfect combination. When I dined there it was a Wednesday evening, but was surprisingly busy. I noted there were a number of people who had driven out from Newcastle - a fact that illustrates the quality of food on offer. In case you do feel like making a night of it they also have a small number of rooms which I am reliably informed come with a fantastic breakfast in the morning.

Visited this restaurant for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday, and it was definitely a treat! Decor is quite unusual, but interesting, and the menu was interesting and varied. My starter of Chargrilled Pheasant with Blackpudding Hash brought on one of those "Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm" moments, and the main course of King Prawns was wonderful - they were the largest and most delicious I have ever been served. My husband thought his main course of Fillet of Beef Medallions cooked with garlic and ginger was pretty good too! Dessserts were lovely and wine was good and reasonably priced. If there was one very small niggle it was the cost of our (not very strong) Espresso Coffees at ?3.10 each. Despite this, though, we had a lovely relaxed evening and will certainly return.

Heddon on the Wall

it was the night after a suprise birthday for my beloved, so we felt a little fragile, and did not expect to enjoy the evening as much as we did. The service was excellent, no long, long waits, but not hurried at all. The food ( 2 king prawn starters, delicious, 1 asparagus which I ws told was best ever tasted, the most disappointing was the selection of smoked fish, bit boring, beloveds choice) was fresh, served prettily but not the pretentious mess sometimes offered at so called gastro gaffs. The main courses all went down very well, and indeed we commented it was the quietest we'd been all week-end while tucking in. The portion sizes were just right, we thought the vegetables a little stingy when delivered to table, but we didn't even eat them all.We will be back again this month, and probably next, and the one after. Marvelous.

I dined here on a Thursday evening with my best friend. She has just had a baby and deserved a really top meal!!!! I knew it was the place to take her as this is my new found favourate place. Everything about it is FAB FAB FAB! The tapas selection is wonderful, we shared 3 tapas between us and I had the rib eye steak cooked on! and my pal had the BIGGEST butterfly king prawns we had ever seen, which put a nice big smile on her face! We couldn't manage pud, I think we would still be sitting there now if we had, too full to move. However I will definitely have to try one another time as they look fantastic. The portions are pretty large. It is such a lovely pretty restaurant with lots of candles and a lovely atmosphere. They were more than happy for us to sit chatting at out table after our meal. The staff are very nice and so is the house wine. Very reasonably priced our evening cost £20 each with wine and a tip. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
