Modern Tandoori

174 High Street West, Wallsend, Tyne And Wear, NE28 8HZ

Dishes served at the Modern Tandoori, Wallsend, overflow with influences form traditional Indian cuisine. From its central spot on Wallsend High Street, the restaurant has made a name for itself on TripAdvisor, with reviewers placing it as one of top three eateries in Wallsend.

The Modern Tandoori menu is created by the award-winning head chef, Tijo Thomas. His love of well-made Indian dishes won him second place in the North East Culinary Trade Association's prestigious cooking competition.

Tandoori dishes at the Modern Tandoori are cooked the traditional way. The meat is marinated for hours in a carefully chosen mix of spices, then cooked on skewers over flaming charcoal. Diners can opt for a full chicken tandoori, lamb tikka tandoori, or, if it's impossible to choose between one mouth-watering flavour and another, diners can go for a cocktail of mixed meats. Dry and spicy Balti dishes also pop up on the menu, as do biryani curries cooked in Balti rice and a vegetable sauce fashioned by the chef.

Vegetarians are well looked after, thanks to the Modern Tandoori's menu of mixed vegetable curries. Dopiaza, vindaloo, dhansak, madras: they're all available in meat-free variations. The vegetable Malayan is a house favourite, which is down to its mild coconut, banana and pineapple base. The sides are mostly vegetarian-friendly, too - think stuffed samosas, crispy onion bhajis and garlic mushrooms.

The chef's menu at the Modern Tandoori has some unusual dishes on board. Cashew nuts give the chicken tikka extra crunch, whilst the butter chicken is cooked tandoori style. Methi lamb adds fenugreek to the mix - an aromatic herb that's especially popular in South Goa. Unusually, a handful of curries, like the Pakistani staple jalfrezi, can be served in wraps. A cooling finish to the meal is provided by the sweet mango lassi dessert. Or if you prefer to round off the night with a nightcap, the Modern Tandoori encourages diners to bring their own bottle.

Quite rightly, TripAdvisor reviewers score Modern Tandoori five stars at every turn. So for a dinner that combines a great menu and a warm welcome, book a table at the Modern Tandoori today.
