Pearl of the Orient
First Floor, Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, The Vale Of Glamorgan, CF10 5BZ
Located in the beautiful Mermaid Quay, Pearl of the Orient offers contemporary Asian cuisine in relaxing surroundings and a lovely view of the Cardiff Bay when dining on the outside terrace. It is the perfect place to sit down and relax after spending the day exploring the waterfront.
The restaurant has been serving up some of Wales’ most delicious Cantonese, Peking, Malaysian and Szechuan dishes since 2001, becoming a favourite among those with a penchant for quality Chinese fare.
Upon entering the restaurant, customers will immediately see that the owners have recreated a dining experience more likely to be found in Asia than in Cardiff and certainly reflective of the flowing waters just outside. A vast dining space, with an open-plan interior does succeed in marrying the feeling of intimacy with spaciousness, combining contemporary orange hues with traditional dark wood.
Diners are able to eat on an outside terrace, affording them stunning views of Cardiff Bay while they enjoy their meals and a chance to bask in the sunshine during the summer months. There is often live piano music and always the calming sounds of the impressive but unobtrusive water feature.
The menu balances dishes that are popular among Brits, such as crispy duck, with cuisine that appears less frequently for example, baked whole fish in banana leaf, as the chefs are keen to showcase a wider range of Asian fare.
There are a range of suggested menus with dishes that perfectly complement each other and seasonal specials, but of course there is the option to freestyle from the vast à la carte menu.
