Ranulf Restaurant at Macdonald Portal Hotel in Tarporley turns out fabulous versions of classic British dishes. The chefs at this AA Guide Rosette awarded restaurant have drawn up a seasonal and exciting à la carte menu that will please hotel guests and Chester locals alike.
Much of the menu is based on traditional British cuisine taken to fine dining heights. Braised beef is elevated by the accompanying oxtail croquette, balsamic onions and red wine jus. Throughout the kitchen only the best Scottish beef is used along with local vegetables, British pork and free range eggs. The clearly marked suppliers of these ingredients let patrons know just how local the produce used actually is. Relatively simple cooking really lets the superb ingredients stand out. Additionally, an extensive wine selection means that there's a bottle to suit every dish and all tastes.
Beautiful food is supported by the equally attractive dining room at Ranulf Restaurant. Just like the whole hotel, the décor is smart and stylish with leather banquettes and elegant wooden tables. This establishment is formal but quite relaxed, particularly as staff are so friendly with every customer. Diners don't have to be staying for the golf and spa to enjoy the excellent food here, it really is worth a visit just to eat. The beautiful surrounding Cheshire countryside makes this a great eatery after a day out and there are views of the scenery from the dining room's tall windows.
Emphasis is placed on the excellent British produce and every plate is cooked in traditional style. Ranulf Restaurant, just outside Chester, is the perfect balance of classic flavours and modern presentation.
