This one-time Great Western Rail Hotel was the brainchild of Victorian engineering svengali, Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Originally built in 1844, it is reputedly the oldest surviving rail hotel in the world. This overnight home to dignitaries like Sir Winston Churchill was tragically gutted by a fire in the 1960's then subsequently used as office space right up until 2005.

Carrying on our tradition of lovingly creating hotel spaces from historically rich buildings, you'll be pleased to know this old girl is well and truly back to stay.

Eating out in Reading has never been more divine. Relax in a comfy banquette and take in the stylish surroundings of the Malmaison Brasserie with its exposed walls and ceiling and the beautiful glass wine cellar that fills one corner.

Sample great tasting cuisine passionately prepared with ethically produced, locally sourced ingredients. Be waited on by enthusiastic and knowledgeable people. And love every minute. Whether dining with friends, for business lunches or a romantic dinner for two this is the perfect place for dining in Reading. After all, that's Mal life.
